New Project – NUMBER 13

Last year I co-wrote NUMBER 13, a comic book story that was serialized in the pages of Dark Horse Presents. Next month, Dark Horse will collect the entire NUMBER 13 story and reprint it in a single volume one-shot (they’re calling it #0). Click HERE to see a preview of that story. Then, in December, a three-issue NUMBER 13 miniseries will debut from Dark Horse. The story is by me and Robert Love (who is also the artist), and the final script is by yours truly.

Check Out My New Book!!!

Check out my new electronic book, BadAzz MoFo’s Book of SPAGHETTI WESTERNS. Featuring dozens of film reviews—many from the long-out-of-print BadAzz MoFo #4—as well as an historical overview, this is something you don’t want to miss out on. If you’re a fan of spaghetti westerns, or you want to know more about the genre, this is the book for you—and it only costs $2.99!!! Confused by all the Django movies? Don’t worry, I explain it all. The Eurowestern genre spawned more than 600 films, but with BadAzz MoFo’s Book of SPAGHETTI WESTERNS you’ll know exactly which movies to watch, like Django, and which ones to avoid, like Django Kills Silently. Please note, this is an electronic book, which can be read on the Kindle or with the Kindle app, and is only available through Amazon (for the time being). There is no physical version of this book, nor will there be a physical version any time in the foreseeable future.

Miles Morales and Ultimate Spider-Man, the Most Important Superhero of the 21st Century

I’ve been reading the adventures of Spider-Man since before I could actually read. Back when I was a kid who had not yet learned to read, I studied the pictures in issues of Amazing Spider-Man. As it turns out, I learned how to read through the comic book adventures of Spider-Man, Batman, and the Hulk. Of all the superheroes that populate the pages of Marvel and Dc Comics, Spider-Man and his alter-ego Peter Parker has always been my favorite, occupying a special place in my heart that no other character in the world of fiction could ever hope to occupy. And then along came the new Spider-Man, teenager Miles Morales who took on the crime-fighting identity of the murdered Peter Parker, (NOTE: Peter only died in Ultimate Spider-Man, which takes place in a different universe from all the other Spider-Man comics, so he’s not all dead, just mostly dead), and suddenly I had a new favorite superhero. The Death of MCA and What the Beastie Boys Mean to Me

Somewhere in my vast archives—though I’m not sure where—I have an interview with Adam Yauch, best known to the world as MCA of the Beastie Boys. Earlier today news broke that Yauch has died at age 48 after a long battle with cancer. I interviewed Yauch back in 2006 for the release of the Beastie Boys concert film, Awesome, I Fuckin’ Shot That. Under the name Nathaniel Hornblower, Yauch had directed Awesome, as well as some of the Beastie Boys best music videos. During the interview I told him that I’d first seen the Beastie Boys in concert back in 1987 during their License to Ill tour, which was in support of the album that placed them on the map 25 years ago. I’ll never forget Yauch’s response: “Yeah, sorry about that. We sucked back then.” Read more The Death of MCA and What the Beastie Boys Mean to Me

What Does the Silence of HUNGER GAMES Author Suzanne Collins Say About Racism?

I’m sure that by now many of you are familiar with the recent wave of racism surrounding Hunger Games, and a cross-section of fans who were outraged that some characters from the book were portrayed by black actors Dayo Okeniyi (left) and Amandla Stenberg (right). If you’re not familiar with what has been going, please take a moment to read about. The New Yorker has a solid piece that pretty much explains it all. To be honest, I’ve been hesitant to weigh in on the subject, as I feel like I’ve been plenty vocal in multiple outlets about issues of race and gender in not just Young Adult literature, but in popular culture as well for a long time. But the more I read about this disturbing nonsense as it relates to Hunger Games, the more infuriated I become. And at this point, I’m especially agitated with one person in particular, Hunger Games author Suzanne Collins.
